根據14日的一項報導指出,社群網站臉書(Facebook)有工具可以移除散布的假新聞,但卻因為怕得罪保守派而拒絕採用。對此,臉書已經予以否認。

根據科技新聞網站Gizmodo的這項報導,正值臉書因為讓惡作劇和不實消息在平台上像病毒一般散布,而且據部份批評認為還助長了共和黨人川普(Donald Trump)的勝選,因而飽受抨擊。

先前有媒體指出,臉書並未打擊假新聞出現的問題,助長這個現象,導致川普的意外勝選。

Gizmodo引述熟悉臉書決策的匿名消息人士指出,這個全球最大的社群媒體是在年初有關臉書在熱門話題中,壓制部份保守派言論的具爭議性消息傳出後,擱置了這項工具。

報導引述1名消息人士說,臉書絕對有工具制止這些假新聞。但在發生熱門標題事件後,他們很擔心去惹怒保守派人士。

當時臉書執行長祖克柏(Mark Zuckerberg)還特別與美國保守派代表人士見面,以防臉書被控打壓右傾政治觀點演變成風暴。

不過,臉書否認了Gizmodo的報導。臉書發表聲明說,報導中所聲稱的並非事實。

聲明指出,臉書並沒有根據動態消息對任何政黨的潛在影響,來進行新聞的改變或保留,而是持續致力於讓臉書新聞更為有意義和增長見聞,這包括審視分享的新聞品質和正確性,包括審視騙點擊率的釣魚新聞(clickbait)、垃圾郵件和惡作劇。

對於有報導指出,臉書動態消息上流傳的假新聞,影響選民投票意願,祖克柏已表示,臉書上的不實新聞數量只是非常少數,有關這影響到這次大選的說法,他認為是無稽之談。
